Who we are

Home / Who we are

The Society for Threatened Peoples Austria is an independent international human rights organisation standing up for persecuted minorities and indigenous peoples.

Helping Together

We support the independent economic and social development of threatened peoples. We aid in times of emergencies such as war, forced migration, economic suppression, habitat destruction, relocation, assimilation etc. threatening a people or part of its population. We support sustainable efforts to strengthen the rights of minorities and indigenous peoples as well as the promotion of cultural diversity. Together with those concerned we stand up for a world where human rights means more than just a phrase!

Making Themselves Heard

We represent the concerns of those in need to authorities and decision makers and lend our voice to those whose plight would otherwise remain unheard.

Creating Movement

We consistently represent the concerns of minorities and indigenous people in the realms of politics, economy and society. We back up these requests through campaigns and rallies. A member of the Society of Threatened Peoples International, we have been granted consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and participatory status with the Council of Europe and our concerns are represented on an international level.

Informing the Public

We report on threatened peoples and document violations of human rights. This includes taking on stories that do not make it to the headline, and never end up on the political agenda. Through tireless research and contacts all over the world we shed light on problems that would otherwise remain below the surface.
